European Investment Bank published study by MORE LION on data acquisition for urban mobility12/9/2021
It is a great pleasure for MORE LION to announce that guidelines we have written together with Suzanne Hoadley for the European Investment Bank (EIB), have been published:
𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗔 𝗔𝗖𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗜𝗡 𝗨𝗥𝗕𝗔𝗡 𝗠𝗢𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬: https://lnkd.in/dkBb3wbg We hope it is in an interesting read for all people working on mobility, innovation and data. The study contains: - What sorts of mobility data exist and how do you collect them? - What about getting sense out of data, dashboards, and how much should it cost? - 6 ways of getting data apart from just buying it. - (EU) Legal aspects, expertise (what kind of people do you need), GDPR - 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝟮𝟬+ 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 + a roadmap. the study is based on our experiences within this field, but mostly on the expertise of 33 of the greatest, friendly giants in this sector: Pedro Barradas, Stephanie Leonard, Jascha Franklin-Hodge, Thibault Castagne, Tiffany Vlemmings, Edoardo Felici, André Ormond, David Thoumas 🚲 Stijn Vernaillen, Ahmet Rasim Demirtas, Tuğçe Işık, Noam Maital, Mélanie Gidel, Olivier Dion, Jeroen Brouwer, Özhan Yılmaz, PhD DIC, David Cunha, Malin Stoldt, Rob Roemers, Sergio Fernández Balaguer, Rick Meynen, Hildegunn Grindheim, Bon Bakermans, Per-Olof Svensk, Miguel Picornell, Tomas Straupis, Otto Van Boggelen, Stephan Corvers, Emmanuel de Verdalle, Kasia Bourée, Stephan Corvers, Tijs de Kler, Christoph Pyliser Suzanne Hoadley & MORE LION have written a report for the European Investment Bank (EIB) on procuring Intelligent Transport Systems for cities around Europe. The study is now published and can be found here. (read further below) as described very adequately by Suzanne Hoadley: "The in-depth study of seven ITS procurement cases of public authorities (covering systems for parking, real-time passenger information, traffic signals and vehicle access regulations) provides an honest and insightful assessment of what has worked well, where difficulties have arisen and most importantly what lessons have been learned.
The insights gained from the case studies, coupled with the valuable inputs received from ITS procurement experts, have been turned into ITS procurement principles supported by very practical recommendations. To give an idea of the study’s contents, key themes emerging from the research include: - The grounding of ITS procurement in a mobility or city development plan - The functional specification of a system - In-house ITS capacity building - Market engagement and/or consultation - Use of open specification and standards to achieve modularity and avoid vendor lock-in." #mobility #EIB #EuropeanInvestmentBank #ITS #IntelligentTransportSystems #mobility #mobiliteit #publication #MoreLion Pieter Morlion gave a guest lecture for the 3rd year bachelor students & alumni of the traffic engineering / mobility (Verkeerskunde) education of Vives University (hogeschool). The lecture was focused on mobility and data: what kind of data sources do exist? What data do you need for what project? What are the predominant projects on mobility, data & innovation in Flanders? What have we learned from previous projects?
MORE LION (for Fietsberaad Vlaanderen) came up with a concept for bike parking in the larger train stations in Belgium, together with imec + partners NMBS and the cities of Leuven, Ghent and Antwerp. The concept was tested in the station of Antwerpen Berchem and got quite some media attention (see screenshots & links below). The fine communication people on the project also made a nice video of the test:
Fietsberaad Vlaanderen asked us to write an article for their knowledge base on how municipalities can get their roads & cycle paths correctly represented in digital maps & routeplanners like Google Maps, Waze, OpenStreetmap, Here, navigation systems, routeplanners, .. Because we believe it's a relevant topic for cities all over the world, we translated the Dutch version (that can be found in the Fietsberaad Vlaanderen Kennisbank) into English. The article can be found here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-get-updates-your-roads-cycle-paths-google-maps-waze-morlion #mobility #innovation #navigation #maps #municipalities #googlemaps #waze #openstreetmap
#Fietsberaad #keynote #presentatie #fiets #data #fietsen #fietsbeleid #toekomst #mobiliteit #spreker
Pieter Morlion was interviewed by David Geens for Doorbraak Radio on the Electricity-as-a-service concept. The podcast (in Dutch) can be found here. #podcast #morelion #electricity-as-a-service
As of January 2021, Pieter Morlion will be an evaluator for VLAIO: the Flemish agency for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Pieter will give independent advice on subsidy applications filed by companies that are seeking for innovation funding from the Flemish government in the field of mobility. Companies can request such funding here. #innovation #evaluation #jury #VLAIO #MORE #LION #application #mobility
Pieter Morlion launches the concept of Electricity-as-a-Service in Knack / Datanews. He proposes one subscription for energy allowing EU citizens to produce energy wherever and whenever they want. This would allow: - to charge an electric car no matter where you are and (virtually) use the energy of your solar panels - login to the elektricity meter in your Airbnb and user your own energy / subscription - track the energy that is being used for service or consumer goods you buy (aluminium windows, sneakers, an MRI scan) - decentrally exchange energy with other citizens - share your energy consumption with the world and link an 'energy score' to subsidies, home insulation and transport for example article on the Knack / Datanews website. ![]() #electricity #electricityasaservice #energy #subscription #electric #vehicle #car #single #market http://www.elektricityasaservice.com/
