Handbook mobility data for EU cities
A handbook for all cities in Europe on how to acquire mobility data in inventive ways.
2020 - 2021
The European Investment Bank (EIB) identified that cities often struggle to efficiently allocate funding for mobility data projects. To address this, the EIB commissioned MORE LION to create a comprehensive handbook for all cities in Europe. This resource equips local authorities with the tools and insights needed to maximize the impact of their investments in mobility data.
The handbook covers a wide range of topics, including:
Data acquisition methods: Exploring the various ways cities can source data, from public-private partnerships to in-house collection systems, exchanges, data regulations, ..
Data sources and data types: what data sources and sensors can provide useful cities to manage and evaluate mobility?
Dashboards and visualization tools: Providing guidance on designing and implementing dashboards for real-time insights and decision-making.
Future trends: Highlighting emerging technologies and opportunities in mobility data.
A practical roadmap: Laying out step-by-step strategies for local authorities to engage with the private sector and establish effective data-sharing partnerships.
By combining a thorough literature review with interviews and case studies, the handbook introduces seven Data Partnership Models that public and private entities can adopt to optimize transport data usage. The goal is to empower cities to plan efficient urban mobility systems, deliver effective public transport services, and align infrastructure investments with sustainability goals such as decarbonization and air quality improvement.
This handbook provides local authorities with a clear, actionable framework to harness the power of mobility data, fostering smarter, more sustainable urban environments. handbook: https://www.eib.org/en/publications/eib-technical-note-on-data-sharing-in-transport
