Belgian bicycle register mybike

mybike - the official belgian bicycle register against theft.

2021 - 2024

As a member of cabinet for the Belgian minister of transport & mobility, Pieter Morlion coördinated the operational setup of the belgian bicycle register, mybike.

The register allows people to order a free anti-fraud sticker, which is sent by mail. When registering the bike (including the frame number, adding the invoice if wanted and some pictures) and applying the sticker, the owner can always be contact by the authorities when a bike is lost & found. Even better, anyone can scan the QR code on the sticker and find out if the bike is registered as stolen (e.g. when bying a second hand bike). Anyone who scans a bike that was stolen or lost, can anonymously send a message to the owner. There is an active collaboration with the police, who can retrieve the owners identity, when needed.

Project partners were: Cropmark (IT partner), FOD Mobiliteit (legislation & communication), Flemish department of mobility (MOW), Mobility.Brussels and the Walloon department of Mobility (SPW), the ministery of interior affairs, the ministry of justice and the Federal Police.
