Procurement of a traffic guidance system

Analysis, tendering and assigning a new traffic guidance system for the city.

2022 - 2023

We provided expertise in the acquisition and implementation of Dynamic Traffic Guidance Systems (VGS) for cities like Ghent, Leuven, and Vilvoorde. Our focus in the Mechelen project was on IT and innovation, ensuring the integration of relevant technologies and the use of robust data sources to build effective, scalable solutions.

For the city of Mechelen, in collaboration with TML and Tractebel, we contributed to the development of a state-of-the-art traffic guidance system designed to manage traffic flow dynamically. This system expands on existing parking guidance to offer real-time updates about traffic conditions, suggest alternative routes during disruptions, and integrate public transit and cycling options for reaching the city center.

Our role specifically involved:

  • Analyzing system requirements: Identifying key technologies, integrations, and data sources needed for an adaptive and responsive system.

  • Market research and benchmarking: Evaluating VGS solutions and comparing market players to recommend the most suitable technologies and suppliers.

  • Supporting the procurement process: Writing specific parts of the tender and assisting in the evaluation of the offers received.

  • Support during implementation: Advising on the system's architecture and ensuring a seamless transition to a modern digital platform.

These efforts allow cities like Mechelen to monitor parking capacity in real-time, guide local traffic efficiently, and respond to disruptions effectively. Our work underscores our commitment to data-driven solutions that address the growing pressures on urban centers due to increasing mobility demands.
