Crowdsourcing traffic counts in Portugal

Getting funding to develop an outdoor Telraam sensor and deploy it in Braga, Portugal.

2023

We helped Telraam securing European funding to develop an innovative outdoor sensor designed to monitor mobility through crowdsourcing. This project enables communities to actively contribute to mapping traffic flows, including road user counts, transportation modes, and speeds, providing valuable insights for sustainable urban mobility planning.

Our contributions included:

  • Crafting the project proposal: We developed a compelling funding application that highlighted Telraam’s innovative approach and its potential impact on urban mobility.

  • Aligning with EU priorities: The proposal was tailored to align with the goals of EIT Urban Mobility by promoting active mobility, sustainable transportation, and community engagement.

The Telraam project involves installing 15 sensors in Braga, Portugal, as part of a six-month pilot under EIT Urban Mobility's RAPTOR programme. By empowering citizens to monitor mobility in their neighborhoods, Telraam helps cities collect detailed, real-time data to inform smarter mobility policies.

This funding not only supports the technical development of Telraam’s sensors but also facilitates their integration into broader strategies for sustainable and efficient urban mobility, positioning Telraam as a leader in crowd-powered mobility solutions.
