Velopark: national bike parking platform
Setup and coordination of the national register of all bicycle parkings in Belgium
2018 - now
As project manager for Velopark, we led the development of this innovative digital platform, launched by Fietsberaad Vlaanderen in December 2019. Velopark collects and visualizes data from bicycle parking facilities across Belgium, making this information uniformly accessible to citizens, municipalities, and organizations. Currently, the platform includes over 3.100 bicycle parking facilities, with contributions from cities, NMBS, and De Lijn.
The platform operates on the Linked Open Data principle, ensuring compatibility with the OSLO mobility standards of the Flemish Government. It allows municipalities and organizations to seamlessly integrate Velopark data into their websites, with real-time updates eliminating the need for manual maintenance. Additionally, Velopark offers an API for developers and other stakeholders to reuse the data in various applications.
Velopark data synchronizes with o.a. OpenStreetMap and the Hoppin database in Flanders.
Our role includes coordinating stakeholders, business analysis, ensuring technical excellence, and integrating the platform with third parties. Velopark exemplifies how accessible, high-quality data can promote cycling as a key component of sustainable urban mobility.
