A number of media in Belgium, like VRT, Le Soir, Nieuwsblad, The Brussels Times report that the federal government in Belgium, together with Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia are working on extension and improvement of the current anti-theft bicycle register Mybike.brussels.

Bike owners will be able to order a non-removable sticker online and attach it to their bikes. Anyone will be able to scan the QR code and see if a bike is stolen or not. Police will be able to contact the owner of a bike, e.g. in case of theft or when it has been lost & retrieved.

Pieter Morlion (in personal capacity, as an expert) is in charge of the implementation on behalf of the Belgian vice prime minister, who is in charge of transport. The project is expected to roll out at the end of the year.
